Watermelon Math: First Grade Summer Fun!

Towards the end of the school year, both our students and us as teachers get antsy for summer. We all know adding in those fun summer and end-of-the-school-year activities is vital for engagement and momentum. Now is it more for us or for the kids? Only we will know, ha! Jokes aside, finding and creating activities that continue learning and are minimal prep can be exhausting. So, I'm working to do it for you! *Insert watermelon math activity*

This activity is helpful for the end of the year, especially for first-grade math review. It reviews tens and ones, greater than, less than, equal to, addition, subtraction, and number sense. There are two versions of the worksheet for differentiation. Also, there is a candy option for those wanting to involve an extra treat.

I used this activity in the classroom before posting it on my Teachers Pay Teachers online store. It was very simple to have students work with their pods to discuss and solve the problems. I also used the two versions for those that tend to have wandering eyes to avoid copying. I can confidently say my students enjoyed it and had fun creating their own problems on the back of the sheet when they were done. Creating your own problems is easily one of my favorite early finisher activities to do and it worked well with this activity.

If you want to try this in your own classroom, check out the link to download the activity. Each sale helps me to create more material so you don't have to!
